How do dermoscopes work?

Dermoscopes can be generally categorized into those that use regular light and those that employ polarized light. When a dermoscope with regular light is used, a liquid needs to be applied on the skin (oil, alcohol or water). Polarized light eliminates the need to apply liquid and is more convenient to use for both patient and physician.
